Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower

Classic Baby Shower Theme
© baby-shower.com

“Winnie-the-Pooh, Winnie-the-Pooh, Tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff. He's Winnie-the-Pooh. Winnie-the-Pooh. Willy, nilly, silly, old bear” (The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie-the-Pooh, by Author A.A. Milne and Illustrator Ernest H. Shepard).  We all know the song and have all seen countless images of Winnie and all his friends in the 100 Acre woods.  I’m positive that you have seen many Pooh bears gracing baby objects and clothing.

Winnie the Pooh is an all time favorite for many nurseries and baby showers, and it can be one of the easier showers to pull off since he never seems to go out of style.  There always seems to be something available with Winnie the Pooh on it.  Really, the only problem that you will face in planning a Winnie the Pooh Shower is whether or not to go with Classic Pooh or the current Disney characters.

Decorations

Well, let’s look at the traditional stuff first like balloons and streamers.  Did you know that you can find Winnie the Pooh adorning both of those?  Yes, you can and they are not much more than a regular blank balloon.  Bear in mind though that too much
Winnie can be too much when it comes to decorating so I would pick one or the other to have the trademarked character on.  Most people will pick the balloons since they are easy to see.  If you go with Winnie the Pooh balloons, I would suggest using white and tan (Pooh color) for the streamers.

Next, you should fill up the room with little knick knacks featuring the cast of Winnie the Pooh.  Don’t forget to have a few honey pots lying around since Pooh loves honey.

Another nice touch is to have a poster of the characters on a wall or door.  There is a really cute image of Pooh and his friends floating down a river in an upside down umbrella.  This is a perfect image for a baby shower and you can easily take it out of the picture and make it 3D by filling an upside down umbrella with stuffed Pooh characters.  Use it as a centerpiece that hangs above the food or present table.

Invitations

Now I don’t really think that I need to give you advice on finding the perfect Winnie the Pooh invitation.  There are so many out there that you will have a hard time deciding which one to go with.  I would like to mention that you can easily take blank Pooh cards or Winnie the Pooh birthday invitations and turn them into baby shower invitations.  Don’t forget to mention that the expectant mother loves Pooh and is decorating her nursery in Pooh if she is doing so.  If possible, insert a gift registry so people will know what has been purchased already.

Gifts, Favors, and Prizes

The number of items that feature Winnie the Pooh is staggering.  You can purchase bedding, crib shirts, clothing, furniture, and toys that feature the lovable cast.  For some other ideas, you could purchase the Winnie the Pooh wall paper for the nursery, a few prints to put on the walls or knick knacks for the room.

I have only met a handful of people that don’t like Winnie the Pooh so it can be a pretty safe bet that your guests would love to receive a collection of Winnie the Pooh stories.  If you don’t want to give them a book or books, knick knacks or ornaments if it is close to the Christmas season can be another great idea for your guests.

For the prizes, you could do little Winnie the Pooh key chains, calendars, t-shirts, aprons, flashlights, bookmarks, books or simply give out the many knick knacks and honey pots that are decorating your room.

Food

Honey cakes can be a wonderful dessert to have at a Winnie the Pooh shower since Pooh’s love honey.  If you don’t like honey, why not have flan cakes with strawberries.  You could also have a lot of fruits and vegetables since Rabbit has a well stocked garden, even after Tigger has bounced his way through.  If you want to stick with a regular cake, you can find many different cakes featuring Winnie the Pooh; just don’t forget to have some tiger striped ice cream to go with it. Also be sure to have honey available for mixing with tea.

Games

Since we are talking Winnie the Pooh, I would play games that were centered around the Pooh characters.  Games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey - replacing Eeyore for the donkey - can be fun for all ages and even adults can have a fun time sticking that tail on him.  You could also play Toss the Baby Teething Ring, where guests have to try to get several teething rings into a honey pot.  The person with the most teething rings in the honey pot wins.  Take some classic games and add a little Winnie the Pooh spin to them and they will fit your theme perfectly.
